EC will cancel candidacy of defaulter even if he is a guarantor

0
The Election Commission (EC) is planning to introduce a provision to cancel the candidacy of a loan defaulter even if he is the guarantor in the upcoming local government elections. The issue will be brought in the election rules.

The organization is also proposing amendments to the law to the government.
EC officials said that the commission conducts elections for city corporations, district councils, upazila councils, municipalities, and union councils.

The government makes laws, and the EC formulates election rules and election conduct codes.
As in the case of the National Assembly elections, the current City Corporation Act and City Corporation Election Rules only mention the guarantor of a defaulting borrower as ineligible. The law and election rules of other local government institutions do not mention this issue.
Therefore, consideration is being given to introducing similar regulations in other countries.
